The CPM has always complained that the Centres approach towards implementing the recommendations of the Justice Sachar Committee has been half-hearted while its governments in Kerala and West Bengal are doing a lot for Muslims. This tall claim was exposed last week when no senior official from Left-ruled Kerala turned up when the Minority Ministry took up the states proposal for sanctioning of schemes for Wayanad, the lone district from the state which figures in the 90-district multi-sectoral development programme of the Centre. Annoyed with the scant representation only the Resident Commissioner of the state in Delhi and the district magistrate of Wayanad turned up Minority Ministry officials refused to take up the Kerala proposal even as they went ahead with business and cleared schemes for two districts of Uttar Pradesh.
