Egypt: ElBaradei pulls out of president race

CAIRO: Egypts reform leader Mohamed ElBaradei says he is pulling out of the presidential race to protest the militarys failure to put the country on the path to democracy. The Nobel laureate,seen as a driving force behind the movement which ousted former President Hosni Mubarak,says the conditions for a fair election are not in place.

Tunisia marks 1 yr since Ben Ali ouster

TUNIS: Thousands of Tunisians marched in peaceful triumph on Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of the revolution that ended the dictatorship of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali,and sparked uprisings around the Arab world. Tunisian media reported that the new leadership,to mark the anniversary,pardoned 9,000 convicts and converted the sentences of more than 100 prisoners from the death penalty to life in prison.

CIA plotted scientist death,says Iran

TEHRAN: Iranian state television said on Saturday that Tehran had evidence the US was behind the latest assassination of one of its nuclear scientists. A magnetic bomb was attached to the door of 32-year-old Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshans car on Wednesday morning in Tehran. The US has denied any role,and Israel has declined to comment.

Officials to meet on rules for US,NATO

ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers recommended that Islamabad seek guarantees that US will respect the countrys sovereignty when top military and civilian leaders meet Saturday to discuss rules on coordinating with the US and NATO amid anger over airstrikes that killed Pakistani soldiers.
