Suicide bomber kills 28 in Iraq

SAMARRA: A suicide bomber targeting Shiite pilgrims killed 28 people and wounded 24 others near the Iraqi city of Samarra on Saturday,a police source said. Another police source said that the attacker was a suicide car bomber who attacked a coach filled with pilgrims leaving Samarra after visiting the shrine,while a third police source said that the explosion had been caused by a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest.

UK man loses legs,arm in Afghan blast

LONDON: A British photographer,Giles Duley 39,embedded with US troops in Afghanistan,has undergone multiple amputations after a roadside bombing,his employer and relatives said Saturday. His brother David Duley said the freelance photographer lost one leg below the knee,the other leg above the knee and his left arm was severed above the elbow.

Palestinians to hold polls by September

RAMALLAH: A top aide to President Mahmoud Abbas says the Palestinians will hold presidential and legislative elections by September. The move appeared to be a response to the popular protests that drove Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to step down late on Friday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Several ethnic Indian religious organisations,including the Malaysia Hindu Sangam,have expressed outrage over the sale of slippers bearing the impressions of a Hindu deity and called for action against the importer of the footwear,media reports said. MHS president R S Mohan Shan said this was tantamount to disrespecting the Hindu religion.
