Roadside bombs in Afghanistan: 17 civilians killed
KABUL: Roadside bombs killed 17 people in Afghanistan,including 13 who died when an explosion ripped through the van they were travelling in on Saturday,the government said. The Ministry of Interior said four women and two children were among those killed in the van in Shamulzayi district of Zabul province. In Kandahar,two civilians riding a donkey were killed Friday night when the animal stepped on a bomb in Maruf,the police chief in Kandahar said. When villagers came to recover the bodies,another roadside bomb went off and killed two more civilians,he said.

Tibetan writer jailed for 4 yrs in China
BEIJING: An activist group said a Tibetan writer has been sentenced to four years in prison in southwestern China for his writings about the unrest and crackdown in Tibet. The US-based International Campaign for Tibet reported on Friday that Tashi Rabten,an editor for the banned literary magazine Eastern Snow Mountain,was sentenced June 2 by the Aba Intermediate Peoples Court in Sichuan province to four years in jail.
