As Dilip Ghosh re-emerges in BJP, wife Rinku files cyber complaint over ‘derogatory’ social media posts

The complaint alleges fake accounts spread defamatory content about the couple, while the former BJP state chief returns to party meetings ahead of Assembly polls.

BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has begun re-emerging in Bengal politics after a prolonged period on the sidelines, even as his wife, Rinku Majumdar Ghosh, has approached the Cyber Crime department with a complaint over alleged derogatory social media posts targeting the couple.

A former BJP state president, Ghosh had gradually lost his organisational positions and later his Lok Sabha seat. However, his recent political activity has triggered speculation about a more active role ahead of the Assembly elections.

Amid this backdrop, Rinku Majumdar Ghosh filed a complaint at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station, alleging that fake social media accounts were being used to spread defamatory and abusive content about their personal life.

Ghosh and Majumdar got married last year and have since appeared together at public events, including the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple. They also recently travelled together on a private trip. According to the complaint, certain social media accounts—purporting to be operated by both men and women—have been posting false and malicious remarks aimed at tarnishing their public image.

The complaint alleges that the posts use foul language and circulate rumours specifically targeting their marriage, with the intent to harm their credibility.

Dilip Ghosh said, “If an injustice is done to someone, they will naturally lodge a complaint. There are laws in place, and action will be taken accordingly.”

The cyber complaint comes at a time when Ghosh appears to be regaining visibility within the party. After being largely absent from BJP meetings and rallies for several months, he was seen last week attending a meeting and lunch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

On Thursday, following a meeting with BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya, Ghosh addressed the media for the first time in months. He said he was ready to work for the party in whatever capacity the leadership decided.
