HC restrains UP Govt from arresting Amar
ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court on Saturday restrained the Uttar Pradesh government from arresting SP general secretary Amar Singh in connection with an FIR lodged at Kanpur in which he has been accused of corrupt practices while his party was in power in the state. The order was passed by a division Bench comprising Justices Yatindra Singh and S K Tripathi on a writ petition by the SP leader whereby he had challenged the FIR filed on October 15 at Babupurwa police station.
Rabris anticipatory bail rejected
CHAPRA BIHAR: A Bihar court on Saturday rejected an anticipatory bail petition of Rabri Devi,the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly,in a case accusing her of uttering uncharitable remarks against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the JDU president during the Lok Sabha poll campaign. District Judge Sasikant Singh rejected her petition stating that the former chief minister could obtain bail by surrendering before the court.
Woman gangraped,four arrested
BEED MAHARASHTRA: A woman was allegedly gangraped by six persons in Maharashtras Beed district,police said. The incident happened on Friday at Georai tehsil in the district. The woman was waiting for a bus near Ashwini Hotel on Jalna road when three men on bike took her forcibly to a room in the hotel where three others were already present. The six then raped her,the police said,adding that while four of them were arrested,two managed to flee.
YSRs wife elected to Assembly unopposed
KADAPA AP: Vijayalakshmi,widow of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy,was on Saturday declared elected unopposed from Pulivendula Assembly seat in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. The seat was previously held by her late husband Rajasekhara Reddy who died in a helicopter crash on September 2.
Orissa Assembly adjourned sine die
BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Assembly,which witnessed uproar over alleged mining scam,was on Saturday adjourned sine die two weeks ahead of schedule,immediately after a resolution was passed changing the states name from Orissa to Odisha and its language from Oriya to Odia. A motion was suddenly moved by Government Chief Whip R N Pani to adjourn the winter session sine die saying there was no important business before the House.
Vigilance allowed to quiz Koda in jail
RANCHI: A special court on Saturday allowed Vigilance Bureau to interrogate former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda in jail in a disproportionate assets case. Vigilance court judge Binoy Kant Khan granted permission to interrogate Koda from December 5 to 12 during daytime after the Bureau moved a petition in this regard. The court also allowed the Bureau to question former minister Kamlesh Singh,in jail facing the same charges.
