Kavi Grace dies at 74

Marathi poet and writer Manik Godghate,popularly known as Kavi Grace,died at a hospital after a prolonged battle with throat cancer

Marathi poet and writer Manik Godghate (74),popularly known as Kavi Grace,died at a hospital here on Monday morning after a prolonged battle with throat cancer. Known for his writings that portrayed sorrows in human life with a mystical element and an out-of-the-world imagery,Grace was conferred the Sahitya Akademi Award recently.

Grace,detected with throat cancer about three years ago,had been coming to the city for treatment at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. Dr Dhananjay Kelkar,who had been treating Grace,said,“The death came around 10 am on Monday. About 14 months ago,he was detected with secondaries of throat cancer in his liver. His health deteriorated about a month ago.”

Grace is survived by two daughters Mithila,Madhavi and son Raghav.
