The 17-year-old daughter of a Karnataka MLA allegedly committed suicide over a quarrel with her younger sister over the TV remote. The deceased has been identified as S Gagana, the elder daughter of BJP MLA Satish Reddy from Bommanahalli constituency in south Bangalore. Gagana was pursuing a first year pre-university course in commerce at Christ College.
Police said Gagana and her sister Prerana,10,were watching television on Thursday evening at home. The remote was with Prerana but Gagana wanted to change the channel. They quarreled till their mother switched off the television and asked them to study, a police official said.
Following the quarrel,Gagana went to her room and locked the door from inside. When her mother went to call her for dinner, she did not reply. Satish Reddy rushed to the room and suspecting something was amiss, opened the door forcefully. He found his daughter had hung herself from the ceiling fan with a sari, the police said. She was rushed to the hospital around 9:30pm ,but died at 11 pm.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death. No suicide note was found and investigations are on,police said.
