Six months after journalist J Dey was shot dead, the Mumbai Police Saturday filed a chargesheet against 12 accused, including gangster Chhota Rajan.
The chargesheet, running into 3,055 pages, names all the arrested accused except journalist Jigna Vora. Her role is still being probed and we will take more time to file a chargesheet against her. A separate supplementary chargesheet elaborating her role will be filed later,: investigating officer Ashok Durafe told the court.
The chargesheet says Rajan ordered Dey’s killing as the latter had written articles against him. Such articles had the potential to negatively affect the gang leader’s illegal activities of extortion, collection of protection money and also other advantages. Hence this crime was also committed to establish that Chhota Rajan yet continues with his nefarious and illegal activities and with a view to retain his supremacy in the underworld. And also to send a message across to other journalists about the imminent consequences that they could face in the event of any future attempt to portray him in a bad light, it says.
So far,11 persons have been listed by the police as wanted accused. The police have managed to procure confessions from Dake,Joseph and Sisodia.
