Homosexuality is a ‘mental disease’,needs cure: VHP

The memorandum, consequently, has demanded that “any attempt to legalise illegal act like homosexuality must be stopped.

Terming homosexuality as a “mental disease” and “illegal” act,the Delhi unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has petitioned President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against granting legal sanction to homosexuality and suggested that efforts should be made to “cure this disease” out of the country.

“After legal cover extended to live-in relationships and reducing the age of consent for consensual sex,the advocacy to provide legal sanction to erosion of cultural values in the form of homosexuality has begun now. Clutch of western cultured politicians and so-called human rights activists are now making attempts to de-criminalise mental disease like homosexuality despite the Supreme Court verdict (against it),” says a memorandum signed by Satyendra Mohan, general secretary of VHP,unit, sent to the President and the Prime Minister.

The memorandum, consequently, has demanded that “any attempt to legalise illegal act like homosexuality must be stopped”. VHP’s demand comes in the backdrop of BJP president Rajnath Singh supporting the Supreme Court verdict against striking down Section 377 of the IPC that criminalises homosexuality.
