Being from Dells XPS lineage,you can expect best of breed features and performance from this hefty looking notebook. The weight of almost three kg shouldnt be a deterrent when you are looking for a notebook that serves you as a gaming or multimedia station. Because what sets this apart from rest of 15-inch notebooks is the full high definition 1080p LCD screen and subwoofer JBL speakers. Now couple that up with a powerhouse of Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GT435M graphics engine,you are all set for rich gaming and multimedia experience.

The combination of features like USB 3.0,Blu-ray,Bluetooth 3.0,7200 rpm 500 GB drive and the 1080p LCD screen along with impressive sound system makes the XPS L501x a solid performer,quite literally,since all this is cased inside a sturdy magnesium alloy chassis. The other distinct and visible feature is the large touchpad,which is nearly the size of MacBook Pro. The touchpad is able to comprehend gestures with which you can zoom-in/out,rotate and do two-finger scrolling. The one good thing about touchpad is that in keyboard layout there is a dedicated key assigned for locking up the touchpad,so while doing typing work you erroneously do not move cursor here and there by touching the touchpad. For a notebook of this size,the three USB ports seem to be less,but nonetheless two of these ports are USB 3.0,which are ideal for fast data transfer from external drives. While the third port is a combination of eSATA and powered USB 2.0 port,which can charge devices like mobile phone or MP3 players even when the notebook isnt switched on,but the notebook should be connected to the main power supply as this does not work on battery power. But what is absent is Expresscard slot and FireWire port.

The graphics card,GT435M supports Nvidia 3D Vision technology,because of which you can enjoy 3D in games or you can use the Blu-ray drive to play 3D content on external 3D display screens connected through mini DisplayPort or HDMI 1.4 slot,but theres no VGA port to connect additional display monitors. Also,for doing web-conferencing or video chats,the Skype certified 2 MP Webcam can deliver 720p high definition video output.

A high score of 7400 in 3DMark proves that this XPS L501x is a true multimedia and gaming machine. And while using up all core of the quad-core i7 processor,we were able to get a battery life of about 2 hours and 8 minutes,which is not bad for a multimedia notebook having 15-inch display. Priced at 70k,this notebook with full high definition screen,superb sound system,powerful processor and graphics capability is a good deal for multimedia professionals and gamers.
