Two persons,one of them a VHP leader,who were declared absconders by the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team SIT,on Friday,surrendered before the committee in connection with the Gulbarg Society massacre.
The two are accused of instigating the mob and taking part in the riots in the locality on February 28,2002. The SIT is still looking for 11 other persons who have been declared absconders in the case.
The two,who surrendered before SIT on Thursday,have been identified as Atul Vaidhya,a former VHP president of Naroda,and Meghsingh Chaudhary,an advocate.
The two were very much part of the rioting mob and had instigated people to attack the Gulbarg Society which left 39 persons dead and more than 30 missing. They surrendered before SIT on Friday and will be presented before the Metropolitan Court on Saturday, said an SIT official.
Vaidhya and Chaudhary had moved an anticipatory bail application before the Ahmedabad City Sessions Court after they were declared absconders by SIT in its case chargesheet. However,later they withdrew their applications after realising that the court might reject their plea.
SIT is still looking for 11 more persons who have been declared absconders. While,five of them were declared absconders by the then investigating agency,six others have been declared absconders by SIT.
