Godhra police on Thursday arrested Rajgadh MLA Fatehsinh Chauhan, already in custody as part of the post-Godhra riots probe, for using unparliamentary language against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi at an election rally in Lunawada on March 21.

Chauhan was arrested from the Godhra sub-jail,where he is lodged as part of the investigations into the riots in Panchmahals and Dahod district.

We have arrested him on charges of poll code violation. He was arrested under Section 171 of the Indian Penal Code and under Section 188 of election code of conduct, said Sub-Inspector G K Vaghela. Chauhan had made derogatory remarks against the Congress president during an election rally in Lunawda on March 21,prompting the Election Commission EC to slap notices on him.

Earlier this week, the Dahod police had arrested the MLA for his alleged role in post-Godhra riots, after the Supreme Court allowed fresh investigations into the cases. Chauhan allegedly led mobs that burnt houses in 21 villages. The apex court had ordered re-investigation in a case filed at Devgadh Baria police station in May 2002,against Chauhan and 70 others.
