The Centre on Thursday re-appointed six Additional Solicitors General of India to represent the Government of India in the Supreme Court.
According to the order issued by the Union Law Ministry, senior advocates Mohan Parasaran,P P Malhotra,Mohan Jain,Indira Jaising,Harin P Raval and Gourab Banerjee have been re-appointed for a two-year term. The term of a majority of these law officers ended on Wednesday. The delay in issuing the appointment order was threatening to snowball into a major controversy after some ASGs expressed their unwillingness to appear for the government without a formal notification.
The Delhi High Court will have a new ASG,Rajiv Mehra, while the incumbent A S Chandhioke shifts to the Supreme Court as ASG.
However, the government has still not been able to resolve the impasse over the appointment of ASGs for Allahabad High Court and South India. Sources said a final decision will be taken by the Prime Minister.
