For the first time since he broke away from his parent organisation, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) has openly disowned Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Geelani.

In its protest to the Pakistan High Commission for not inviting the party to Islamabad, the socio-religious organisation has said Geelani is not their representative. The JeI is part of the Hurriyat Conference led by Geelani. We have protested,in writing,to Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik, Amir-e-Jamat Sheikh Ghulam Hassan said.

Maybe Pakistan has a confusion that Syed Ali Geelani is a representative of the JeI but the fact is that he (Geelani) represents the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and not JeI.

The Pakistan government recently invited several separatist leaders from both the hardline and moderate Hurriyat camps to Islamabad, but the JeI wasnt on the list.

This is for the first time that the JeI has openly disowned Geelani, who was once the head of the partys political wing. Geelani represented the JeI in the Hurriyat Conference before he decided to launch his own political organisation, the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.

The JeI initially allowed Geelani to launch the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat,but later distanced itself.
