Gas tragedy: Chouhan says boycott Olympics

Echoing the activists working for the survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy,Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday urged the Centre to boycott the London Olympics if Dow Chemicals continues to be one of the sponsors.

In a letter to Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken,the Chief Minister has said India should register its protest against Dows sponsorship citing the companys link to the 1984 tragedy.

Liabilities related to the disaster have not been fully settled and are a subject of litigation to which the Indian government is a party, Chouhan has pointed out.

Funds intended for sponsorship would be better utilised if they are spent on alleviating the survivors miseries,he has said.
