A former BJP MP was shot dead while on his way to his brick kiln under in UPs Meerut district on Monday. The assailants,who came in a car,took away the MPs licenced revolver and car and also injured his driver by hitting him with a pistol butt.
Meerut DIG Jai Narain Singh said,The statement of the lone eyewitness,Manoj Singh,who is the driver of the former MP,Amarpal Singh,indicated that a scuffle over a minor accident between the vehicles of the assailants and the victim led to the murder. We are probing if the attack was pre-planned,as the assailants were carrying firearms. The family of the deceased has,however,denied enmity being the reason for the murder,the DIG said.
Amarpal Singh,70,was three-time MP and had also been an MLA from Meerut.
The DIG said Singh was going to his brick kiln at Attaura village in a Scorpio. The road was damaged,forcing Manoj to stop. As soon as he applied the brakes,a Santro smashed into the rear side of the Scorpio. Five youths came out of the car and caught hold of Manoj. Two of them pounced upon Singh and tried to snatch his weapon. Manoj tried to help him,but was hit on on his head with a pistols butt. He heard three gunshots and saw Singh falling on the ground and the youths taking away his car and revolver.
