Flu can trigger heart attack,says Lancet

Flu infection can trigger cardiac problems,including heart attack,but researchers say influenza vaccine may be effective in preventing these complications. Researchers say people with higher risk factors such as heart problems and diabetes should be encouraged to go in for flu vaccination as a preventive measure.

Findings published in the latest edition of medical journal Lancet reveal that such preventive measures become important in the backdrop of H1N1 pandemic and seasonal flu outbreaks.

Swine flu vaccines are currently under various stages of development and are likely to hit international market by February next year.
