Taking the age-old cultural ties between India and Japan a step forward, the two-day Japan Fest is being celebrated in the Capital, with cultural performances at various venues across the city. While a 10-minute introductory performance was held at Select Citywalk on Saturday, the mega show will be held at the Siri Fort Auditorium today, where a group of 90 artistes from Japan will perform various traditional acts. Having performed earlier in France,Germany,Hungary,Russia,Greece,Malaysia,Denmark and the UK,this is their maiden performance in India.

The day will start with Taiko — a traditional Japanese drum performance that follows a “jo-ha-kyu” structure, which implies the performance will gain momentum towards the end. There will also be Yasakoi — a highly energetic dance form, which is the traditional summer dance of Japan.

Colours — intrinsic to both India and Japan — will be on full display during the day. Booths showcasing Japanese art, clothes and handicrafts will be put up,where lucky visitors might end up getting some goodies. Besides, calligraphy and origami workshops can be a big pull for youngsters. Markus, one of the organisers, says,“The programme aims at making people aware of the cultural rubric of Japan.”

Japan Fest will be held at Siri Fort Auditorium today,2 pm onwards. Entry is free.
