Former MP K S Manoj, who left CPM recently over the partys stand on religious practices in its latest rectification drive, has moved a formal application for Congress membership. Manoj, now a medical practitioner in Delhi, placed his plea before the state Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday.
The Congress is already sitting on the membership application from S Sivaraman, another ex-MP who had quit the CPM after being sidelined. It is learnt that the cases of the former comrades,a Latin Catholic and a Dalit, will soon be taken up by the party high command.
Disregarding the protest from a section of leaders,Congress in Kerala is favouring the ex-MPs entry into the party, which already had embraced another disgruntled Marxist leader A P Abdullakutty. Manoj and Sivaraman already have their eyes fixed on seats for Assembly elections,to be held next year.
