Deve Gowda steps in,blasts BSY,CJ

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda made his presence felt for the first time in the political quagmire in Karnataka.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda made his presence felt for the first time in the political quagmire in Karnataka Friday by quoting William Shakespeare while taking a dig at BJP Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and by demanding introspection by Karnataka Chief Justice J S Khehar for attending a government Dussehra event in Mysore last week.

All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten Yeddyurappas hands, Gowda said, borrowing from Shakespeare to criticise the Chief Minister for allegedly facilitating widespread corruption. The remarks came amid allegations about BJP efforts to lure away legislators from the Congress and the JDS to improve its numbers in the Assembly.

Gowda even went to the extent of using an article in a local tabloid to cast aspersions on the Chief Justice of Karnataka for attending Dussehra festivities at Yeddyurappas invitation ahead of the High Court delivering a judgment on the disqualification of 11 BJP MLAs who had rebelled against the state government.

Chief Justice Khehar had upheld the disqualification of the BJP MLAs by the Assembly Speaker after legally establishing the fact that their rebellion amounted to a voluntary exit from the BJP. A second judge,Justice N Kumar, had called the disqualification illegal, and the matter is now being decided by a third judge.

Referring to an article in tabloid,Agni, which raised questions of the propriety of the Chief Justice attending the event,Gowda said,I would suggest the Chief Justice get the article translated in English. Let him then introspect by himself.

Gowda also lashed out at the Congress leadership in New Delhi for not taking steps to act against the BJP in Karnataka. They will have to open their eyes. Otherwise, the two secular parties in Karnataka will be destroyed by the money and muscle power of the BJP. The worst type of administration is being provided in Karnataka, he said. The Congress leaders in Delhi are not bothered about what is happening, and as a result, the partys local leaders are suffering, he said.

Gowda claimed the Congress and the BJP were merely an A team and a B team. The A team wants to run the country with the support of the B team, he said.
