The talks between the Trinamool Congress and the Congress reached a crucial stage on Wednesday as even after getting a call from Congress chief Sonia Gandhis political secretary Ahmed Patel to postpone announcement of her candidates till March 21,Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee insisted that the Congress will have to tell her its plans by Thursday evening.
Since our president Sonia Gandhi is not in the country we request you to postpone the announcement till she returns on March 21, Patel reportedly told Mamata. Mamata replied,March 21 will be too late. You will have to tell me your stand by tomorrow evening.
Both the parties are now looking forward to Mamatas telephonic conversation with Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday night.
With three days having passed since the Left published its list of candidates, pressure is mounting on Mamata to announce at least a part of her list. The Trinamool has prepared a list of 294 candidates and sources in the party said that if the deadlock continues, the party may come out with a portion of its list within the next 48 hours. We hope the discord will be resolved, but if the process takes too long,Didi might announce the names of candidates for those seats where there is no contention between the two parties, a Trinamool leader said.
While the discord between the two parties regarding the number of seats has been somewhat resolved, the Congress is sticking to its demand for quality and winnable seats,as opposed to the ones offered by the TMC.
Sources said the bone of contention is the Kolkata port seat, created due to delimitation after which Kavitirtha and portions of Gardenreach constituencies ceased to exist.
