SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday said the Congress-led UPA governments plan to provide reservation to Muslims was a poll ploy and added that his rule had provided a fair deal to the minority community in the state.
Congress is raising the issue of Muslim reservation at the time of UP Assembly elections8230; reservation in which form8230;let us first find out then I will offer my comments, SP chief told reporters in response to queries on the issue.
When BSP and Congress were in power in UP,they could provide only 2 per cent reservation to Muslims in police jobs, Mulayam said,adding that about 15 per cent Muslims got job in police recruitment during his tenure as chief minister.
The SP chief sought to make light of Rahuls UP tour and urged the media to desist from comparing SPs state unit chief and his son Akhilesh Yadav with the Nehru-Gandhi family scion. He said Akhilesh had undertaken his Kranti Rath campaign in the state much before Rahul embarked on the idea.
