The opposition BJP on Friday accused the ruling Congress of misusing the CBI for political gains even as it kept silent on the BSPs allegation that the NDA also misused the investigating agency to target Mayawati as the case goes back to the time when the NDA government was in power at Centre.
This is a serious indictment of the UPA government which has turned the investigative agency into a tool to garner political support for its survival, BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay told reporters while reacting to the Supreme Courts verdict.
The party, however, later skirted a question on BSPs charge that the BJP misused the CBI to frame Mayawati in a false case of disproportionate assets. Let us read the judgment carefully, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said at a press conference.
Soon after the verdict,BSP general secretary and Mayawatis legal counsel Satish Mishra said,In this case it has been proved that CBI is used for political gains. CBI was first used by the then BJP government at the Centre and the case was pursued by the present government at the Centre. Every single paisa in Mayawatis account is accounted for.
But Sinha dismissed the allegation against the BJP-led NDA. Let me make it clear, the CBI worked independent of any political influence during the NDA regime, he said.
