The Delhi High Court on Wednesday gave the Centre eight weeks to clarify its stand on the probe against Prasar Bharti incumbent CEO B S Lalli, who is accused of financial irregularities and impropriety.
Issuing notice to the Centre,a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra sought intimation to the court about the actions being mulled by the authorities in the wake of several directions given by the court and also following the Central Vigilance Commission report, indicting Lalli on several counts.
The courts directive came on an application moved by NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation CPIL,which claimed that Lalli paid no heed to the judicial orders and even as the Central Vigilance Commission CVC incriminated him,the Centre was reluctant to take actions.
The counsel for the Centre said they were planning to file a reference in the Supreme Court in the matter in view of the Commissions reports and the court orders, and required some time for it.
The court then gave them eight weeks to come up with a conclusive response whether the government was moving the apex court.
The PIL has alleged that the corporation was being run in an unprofessional manner by Lalli.
The petition also accused him of financial mismanagement in Prasar Bharati.
