CM talks about attacks on churches

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa blamed an organised group for twin attacks on churches in the state,saying it was an attempt to tarnish his governments image. Governor H R Bhardwaj called for dealing with the forces disturbing communal peace and harmony with a heavy hand in his address. Since these incidents have happened before the Republic Day,I suspect some organised group is trying to tarnish the image of the government which is working for the welfare of the people, Yeddyurappa,who is facing flak over the attacks,said after the parade. Yeddyurappas comments came after the Governor said in his Republic Day address it was the constitutional duty of every government to deal firmly with forces disturbing communal harmony.

Post-Telangana,a call for peace

Peace is a must to sustain development in Andhra Pradesh,said Governor E S L Narasimhan,in his speech. The remarks of the Governor assume significance in the wake of ongoing agitations for the past two months on Telangana statehood. I appeal to all sections of the society to ensure peace and harmony so that the strides we made in development and welfare could be sustained and the peace progress could be sustained, Narasimhan said. The Governor,who is a retired IPS officer,lauded the efforts of the state police in containing Maoist movement.

Governor concerned over terror linkages

Expressing concern over terror-linked activities in the state,Governor R S Gavai cautioned that development works would be affected if such activities were not checked. It is a matter of concern to us that certain terror-linked activities have been brought to light in the state. Let us all be alert against such acts which will hinder our developmental activities, Gavai said after taking salute at the Republic Day Parade. Referring to the issue of climate change,he said the scientific community should devise appropriate methods to tide over the impending crisis.

Promise of adequate power by 2012

Governor K Sankaranarayanan took salute of an impressive parade by security forces and unfurled the tricolour at Shivaji Park ground in Mumbai. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan,Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal,Mumbai Mayor Shradhha Jadhav,several ministers,senior policemen and bureaucrats were present at the event. The government is committed to achieving self-sufficiency in power by 2012. With new public and private generation projects coming up and rapid improvements taking in distribution efficiency,the state will have adequate power to meet all its agricultural,industrial and household needs by 2012, said the Governor.

Governor asks youth to shun violence

Solution to the Maoist menace lay in providing responsive and accountable administration,implementation of welfare schemes and bringing the alienated youth back to the mainstream,Governor M O H Farooq said after unfurling the national flag. I call upon all alienated youth to give up violence,join the mainstream and contribute in the development of the state 8230; Violence can never be the solution to any problem. He announced the launching of the Sakshar Bharat Programme for eradicating illiteracy among women and providing vocational training. Farooq said it would be implemented in 17 out of the 24 districts where women literacy is below 50 per cent.
