A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the probe into the mysterious death of A M Sadhick Batcha,a team of officials went to Chennai to gather forensic evidence in the case. The team, along with CBI officials from Chennai, visited Batchas residence and examined the room where he was found hanging on March 16. They recorded statements and will visit the hospital where the autopsy was conducted. The experts will procure viscera samples of Batcha kept at the hospital to determine if there was any foul play. Officials said they would try to conclude the probe before the second chargesheet was filed in the 2G spectrum case. The second chargesheet,to be filed this month-end,will focus on the Rs 214 crore paid to Kalaignar TV by DB Realty as part of the alleged kickbacks to get spectrum. Officials said the second chargesheet may mention the name of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhis daughter Kanimozhi. Kanimozhi,a DMK MP,owns 20 per cent stake in Kalaignar TV. The CBI had filed the first chargesheet on April 2. The agency has also finalised a joint team of CBI and Enforcement Directorate officials who will soon leave for Mauritius and Cyprus. The CBI had earlier sent letters rogatory to these countries where a large part of the scam money is believed to be invested. After investigation in Mauritius and Cyprus,we will submit a final report, said a CBI official. Asked why lobbyist Niira Radia was made a witness, officials said they had traced a phone call between former telecom minister A Raja and Radia which is helping them to prove their case. The call was made after Raja sacked two DoT officials who were part of the departments Wireless Planning and Coordination wing, an official said. Raja and his aides allegedly asked the two officials to allocate spectrum to Swan Telecom and when they refused,Raja transferred them. Raja was found discussing this (transfer of two officials) with Radia. She was made a witness after she accepted that Raja had discussed this with her, the official added. U Lalit also handled Baijals brief Uday U Lalit, the CBI-announced Special Public Prosecutor in the 2G spectrum scam trial, was till recently handling the brief for Pradip Baijal, former chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. Baijal who along with Niira Radia founded Noesis Strategic Consulting Services Pvt Ltd,a public advocacy firm in 2007 was raided by the CBI in connection with the 2G scam. When contacted,Baijal said: He (Lalit) has recently returned the brief. We had discussions in the past regarding my case. Lalit said he recently returned the retainer fee that Baijal,as a client, had paid.
