After sharp protests by non-Congress states to the Centres NCTC proposal on the ground that it violates the federal structure of the countrys polity, the BJP has decided to highlight the issue in the coming Budget session of Parliament, which will get underway on March 12.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said on Monday the BJP would rally political opposition against the NCTC and the Centres attempt to dilute federalism,as non-Congress parties were making this a common cause, regardless of whether they were part of the NDA or not. Swaraj, who attended a meeting of political parties convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to discuss the schedule for the Budget session, said the main Opposition would raise several other important issues including demanding a white paper on the issue of black money.

Floor leaders of parties listed the issues they wished to raise in the session. Though the case in point for the Opposition is the proposed NCTC,it plans spreading the net wider to focus on the Centre-state relations. The issue would obviously draw support from various regional parties, exposing chinks in the ruling alliance too.

The issue of alleged violations of the model code of conduct by Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid,Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma and Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal during the just concluded Assembly polls is also high on the Opposition agenda. We will raise a number of issues. These include NCTC,which we will raise separately as an issue relating to terrorism. We will also raise the issue of federalism and the frequent violation of model code of conduct by Union ministers, Swaraj said.

Adding that the Norway child custody controversy would also be raised by the BJP,she said: Ive given a calling attention motion on the subject.
