Bhattarai sworn in as new Nepal PM

KATHMANDU: President Ram Barn Yadav administered the oath of office to Baburam Bhattarai who was sworn in as the 35th Prime Minister of the country on Monday. Bhattarais promise to have a small size cabinet to begin with did not quite materialise Monday as the coalition partners from the United Madhesh Democratic front UMDF failed to come to an understanding on the ministers to be sworn in. Meanwhile,Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday congratulated Bhattarai. He also invited Bhattarai to visit India.

Irene toll at 21,Obama says ordeal not yet over

NEW YORK: The death toll in the US from Hurricane Irene has risen to 21 as President Barack Obama on Monday warned Americans that their ordeal is not yet over as it may take weeks for the recovery from devastation caused by the storm. I want people to understand that this is not over. Response and recovery efforts will be an ongoing operation, Obama said.

Qaeda No 2s death not yet confirmed: Pakistan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A Pakistani security official said the country had no confirmation al-Qaedas deputy chief had been killed in a recent US drone strike. The US earlier claimed Atiyah abd al-Rahman was killed on August 22 in North Waziristan.
