Pasha leaves for US to revive ties

Islamabad: Pakistans powerful ISI chief Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha on Wednesday left for the US in an apparent bid to defuse mounting tensions between the two sides over a slew of incidents,including Osama bin Ladens killing in a covert American raid and suspension of 800 million in military aid to Islamabad. Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha,Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence,has left for the US for a day-long visit to coordinate intelligence matters, said a brief statement from the military. It did not give more details of his unscheduled trip.

Russian boat mishap toll reaches 100

KAZAN: Divers widened their search for the remaining 29 missing boat passengers after the death toll in Russias worst river disaster in three decades reached 100,the Emergencies Ministry said. Officials say 79 people of 208 passengers survived the sinking of an aging,overcrowded tourist boat when it sank in the Volga River on Sunday. The remaining 29 still unaccounted for are feared dead.

US woman chops off husbands genitals

Los Angeles: A Californian woman cut off her husbands genitals with a 10 inch kitchen knife after drugging him and then disposed off the organ in a garbage chute before calling the police. Catherine Kieu Becker,48,was held on a one million bail and police said the woman drugged her husband,and when he fell unconscious,she removed his clothes and attacked him with a 10 inch knife as he awoke. He is expected to survive,hospital sources said.

Gaddafi retakes village near Tripoli

ZINTAN: Forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi on Wednesday retook a village south of Tripoli seized by rebels a week ago,a set-back to rebel plans. The loss of Al-Qawalish,about 100 km from the capital,underlined the faltering pattern of the rebel advances.
