Berlin: A stampede inside a tunnel crowded with techno music fans crushed 15 people to death and injured dozens at Germanys famed Love Parade festival in Duisburg on Saturday. Police are trying to determine exactly what happened,but the situation was very chaotic,police commissioner Juergen Kieskemper said.

Mubarak wont go to Africa summit

CAIRO: Egypts President Hosni Mubarak will not go to the African Union summit in Uganda despite officials earlier citing his planned attendance as proof of his good health,the state media reported on Saturday. Mubarak delegated Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif to represent Egypt at the summit in Kampala,which is expected to address the sensitive issue of sharing Nile river water,the official Al-Ahram daily reported.

Iran studies to build n-fusion reactor

TEHRAN: Irans nuclear agency began studies on Saturday to build an experimental nuclear fusion reactor,something that has yet to be achieved by any nation. Vice-President Ali Akbar Salehi,who also heads the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran,told a conference on the new research programme that his agency has set an initial budget of 8 million to conduct serious research in the area of nuclear fusion.

N Korea declares sacred war on US

SEOUL: North Korea said on Saturday it would begin a sacred war against the US and South Korea at any time necessary based on its nuclear deterrent,in response to reckless military exercises by the allies. The army and people of the DPRK will start a retaliatory sacred war8230; any time necessary in order to counter the US imperialists and the South Korean puppet forces deliberately pushing the situation to the brink of a war, the National Defense Commission said.

Islamabad: The Lashkar-e-Toiba has expanded its operations to Afghanistan and the West and has become more active throughout the region,which calls for concerted action against the outlawed group,Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen said on Saturday. Ive watched LeT grow since the end of 2008,move to the West,become more active in other countries,more active throughout the region,more engaged with other terrorist groups, said Mullen,who arrived in Islamabad on Saturday.
