Bombs kill 23 in Iraq,provincial Governor injured

BAGHDAD: Twin blasts on Wednesday killed 23 people and wounded an Iraqi provincial governor,officials said. Police said two bombs exploded in Anbar’s capital of Ramadi. A suicide bomber in a car caused the first blast near the provincial administration buildings. Governor Qassim al-Fahdawi was injured when he came to inspect the site and a second bomber detonated explosives .

Britisher in Iraq freed after 2 years

LONDON: A British man abducted by Iraqi militants and held hostage for two-and-a-half years was freed on Wednesday,the British government said. Foreign Secretary David Miliband said computer consultant Peter Moore had been handed over to Iraqi authorities and was at the British Embassy in Baghdad. Moore,36,is believed to be the only survivor of a group of five Britons abducted outside Iraq’s Finance Ministry in May 2007.

LOS ANGELES: Reality star Kim Kardashian (29) is facing a lawsuit filed by Dr Siegal’s Cookie Diet accusing her of making false claims regarding the product on Twitter. The spat was fired off when the celeb sent a cease and desist letter to the cookie maker accusing them of falsely claiming that she was endorsing their brand. To counter it,the celebrity doctor behind the weight loss program filed his own lawsuit on Tuesday seeking unspecified damages,reported Radar online. Kardashian has been accused of calling the Cookie Diet “unhealthy” on her Twitter page.

LOS ANGELES: New York’s Tavern on the Green,once highest-grossing restaurant in the US,is preparing for New Year’s Eve,when it will serve its last meal. Just three years ago,it was plating more than 700,000 meals annually,bringing in more than $38 million. But that sum wasn’t enough to keep the landmark restaurant out of bankruptcy court. Its $8 million debt is to be covered at an auction of Baccarat and Waterford chandeliers,Tiffany stained glass and other decor. For 75 years,since it first opened amid the Great Depression,the Tavern has attracted clients from around the world.

WASHINGTON: Mother Teresa and actress Katharine Hepburn will be honoured on US postage stamps in 2010. Joining them will be singing cowboy Gene Autry,artist Winslow Homer and Adm Arleigh Burke,the Postal Service announced on Wednesday.
