Khamenei warns Opposition leaders
TEHRAN: Irans supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned opposition leaders on Sunday to distance themselves from protesters whom he accused of acting against Islam. Those who shout slogans in the name of these people opposition leaders,hoist their pictures and speak of them with respect are in a point which is the exact opposite of Imam founder of the revolution Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini,revolution and Islam, Khamenei said on state television. When you see this,step aside, he said to opposition leaders.
Rs 600 mn looted from Pak bank
KARACHI: In one of the biggest bank heists in Pakistan,a security guard and his accomplices looted a private bank and decamped with Rs 600 million in Karachi. The security guard let in two of his accomplices into the bank on Saturday night after it was closed and they first tied up two other guards and spent the whole night cutting through the vaults and collecting their loot,police said.
Kabul Mayor resigns over graft conviction
KABUL: The mayor of Kabul,convicted of corruption last week in the biggest case since President Hamid Karzai ordered a crackdown,relinquished his post on Sunday after days of defying prosecutors by continuing to go to work. Mayor Abdul Ahad Sayebi had given up his post and was replaced on Sunday by a caretaker,an official said. The mayor was sentenced to four years in jail last week. Sayebi was convicted of corruptly extending the lease of a market.
