Attack at Pakistan Naval HQ,1 dead
Islamabad: A teenage suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of Pakistans Naval Headquarters here,killing a naval official and injuring three. The bomber was carrying heavy explosives wrapped to his body and detonated it as the naval policemen tried to frisk him. Body parts of the bomber were scattered on the road,TV footage showed. PTI
Islamist rebels claim Russia rail bombing
MOSCOW: Islamist militants on Wednesday claimed responsibility for a bombing that derailed a Russian express train,killing at least 30,and vowed further acts of sabotage in a letter posted on a rebel website. This operation was prepared and carried out8230; pursuant to the orders of the Emir of the Caucasus Emirate Doku Umarov, KavkazCenter.com website said,quoting a letter it said it received from Islamist rebels. Umarov is Russias most wanted guerrilla leader.
Philippine massacre gunman arrested
MANILA: Philippine police said on Wednesday they have arrested a government militiaman for allegedly participating in last weeks gruesome massacre of 57 people a breakthrough that could help pin down a powerful clan suspected in the carnage. Ballistics tests on an M16 rifle seized from suspect Esmail Canapia showed it was used to fire several of the 126 ammunition shells found on the scene of the November 23 massacre,national police Director General Jesus Verzosa said.
Japans new leader to face inquiry
TOKYO: Tokyo prosecutors will ask Japans Prime Minister,Yukio Hatoyama,for a written explanation of his role in millions of dollars of improperly reported political donations,Japanese media reported on Wednesday. Prosecutors are also closely examining the role of the Prime Ministers former political secretary in the scandal,which involves some 3 million of Hatoyamas own money and another 9 million given to him by his mother.
Under fire,Google to limit free content
LONDON: Google Inc will limit the number of free news articles accessed by people using its search engine. The concession follows criticism from media publishersnotably News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch that argue the company is profiting from online news pages. In their official blog,Josh Cohen,Googles senior business product manager,said the company would make it possible for publishers to limit users from viewing more than five articles a day.
