Russia,US sign deal to reduce

proliferation risk

MOSCOW: Russia and the US agreed on Tuesday to study the possibility of making Russian research reactors less of a nuclear proliferation risk by converting them to use low-enriched uranium fuel. US Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel Poneman signed the agreement with the head of Russias state nuclear corporation Rosatom,Sergei Kiriyenko,during a visit aimed to further cooperation on nuclear security.

BELLO: Rescue workers has recovered 23 bodies but said over 100 people remained missing and feared dead following a landslide that buried a poor Medellin suburb amid Colombias heaviest rains in decades. The rains triggered Sundays landslide in the suburb of Bello.

Argentina recognises Palestinian state

JERUSALEM: Israel expressed disappointment Tuesday with Argentinas recognition of a Palestinian state in territories Israel occupied in 1967. Argentina said its move,announced late Monday just days after Brazil took a similar step,reflected the country8217;s deep frustration with gridlocked peace efforts. But Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman said unilateral recognition was counterproductiveto peacemaking.
