Man burns alive two sons; sets wife,self ablaze

HOSHIARPUR: A man allegedly burnt his two minor sons to death and tried to kill his wife in the same manner before attempting suicide in Dasuya area near here,the police said on Sunday. Jaswinder Singh,a mason,had a fight with his family over dowry,and in a fit of rage he burnt alive his two sons Lovpreet 6 and Lakhwinder 5 in his house at Kallowal village on Saturday night,SHO Onkar Singh Brar said. Later,he set himself and his 33-year-old wife Narinder Kaur ablaze. Both have been admitted to civil hospital.

Mild earthquake in 2 Haryana districts

SONEPAT: A low-intensity earthquake on Sunday hit Rohtak and Sonepat districts of Haryana but no loss of life or damage to property was reported. The quake,measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale,occurred at 4:55 am,the MeT department said in Delhi. People rushed out of their homes in panic as the tremor struck. I felt tremors for nearly 40 to 50 seconds. We rushed out of the house in panic, Birender,a resident of Sonepat,said.

Murder case: Life for 4 women of a family

SAGAR MP: A local court here has awarded life imprisonment to four women of a family. Judge S K Sharma,in the order on Saturday,also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each on them. According to the prosecution,the accused Basso Bi,Nasso Bi,Asma Bi and Kapuria Bi set ablaze Vinita,their neighbour,suspecting her character,on August 14 last year at Niwadi Kheda village in Banda tehsil. The victim,in her dying declaration,had named the four women.

2 women tourists feared drowned

PURI: Two women tourists were on Sunday feared drowned after they went for a holy dip near a sea beach at Swargadwar area here,the police said. The women,identified as Satyabrati Naik 30 and Jamuna Khako 25,were swept away by a high tide,inspector-in-charge of the local police station Amulya Kumar Dhar said. Life guards were unable to trace the two women,and the search is on,Dhar added.

35 bombs found in Orissa,2 held

JAJPUR: Close on the heels of the seizure of 21 crude bombs from Korei area in Jajpur district,the Kalinga Nagar police have seized 35 crude bombs from Kalinga Nagar steel hub area on Saturday evening. Two persons were arrested. The police said that the bombs were likely to have been procured to create violence in the coming panchayat polls. The arrested persons have been identified as Chaitanya Malik 45 and Nidhi Malik 29.
