AHMEDABAD: A special CBI court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on the bail application of former

Gujarat minister Amit Shah,arrested in connection with the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case,till August 30. When the matter came up for hearing in the court of CBI Judge G K Upadhyay,Shahs lawyer Mitesh Amin requested adjournment saying their senior counsel Ram Jethmalani could not make it to the court. The CBI did not raise any objection in this regard and the matter was adjourned till August 30.

CBFC gets miffed at Peepli Live

Mumbai: The Central Board of Film Certification sent a letter addressed to actor Aamir Khan on Monday lamenting the potrayal of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in the movie Peepli Live. The letter points to a scene in the movie where a district magistrate is asked to donate a hand pump to an affected farmer and the dialogue states,Ek Lal Bahadur de do. The letter said the scene was derogatory and a direct insult to Shashtri. The letter,signed by advisory panel members Brijmohan Sharma and Mohan Singh Saini also demanded immediate deletion of the demeaning dialogue from the movie and a public apology.

Russians Goa overstay offence against nation

PANAJI: Family members of a Russian traveller arrested for overstaying in Goa have expressed concern over a local court order stating that the tourists outstay was an offence against the nation. Forty-year-old Aleksandr Solomein was arrested in Goa after he was found staying with an expired visa. In a communication on August 14,to the Russian Consulate in Mumbai,his family members have raised objection to the court order.

Relatives not allowed to meet jailed Maoists

ROURKELA: Due to the absence of identity proofs,the Rourkela Special Jail Authority here on Tuesday denied permission to family members to meet under-trial prisoners,booked as suspected Maoists. About 15 family members from different villages of Bonai sub-division on Monday reached the jail and requested jail authorities to permit them to meet their family heads who were shifted from Bonai sub-jail to Rourkela Special jail on August 8.

Workers kill employers wife,children

PATNA: Two employees of a furniture showroom allegedly hacked to death their employers wife and two children and looted cash and valuables from their house here,a police official said Tuesday. Upendra and Mukesh,working at the showroom owned by Sanjiv Kumar Gupta,had gone to his house to hand over the keys after closing the shop last night,SSP,B S Meena said,adding,Gupta is presently in New Delhi. The two,allegedly in inebriated state,misbehaved with Guptas wife Arti and later hacked her and the two children to death with sharp-edged weapons,he said,adding that the accused were captured early on Tuesday.

Acid attack case: One victim dies,1 arrested

MUZAFFARNAGAR: One person was arrested for allegedly attacking seven members of a family with acid even as one of the victims succumbed to his injuries here on Tuesday at Miranpur town in the district,police said. Shezad has been arrested and a bottle of acid recovered from his possession,police said,adding that a case has been registered against him. Ramzani 50,who was attacked Monday night in his house,died in the hospital on Tuesday.

9 labourers penalised for killing flamingos

COIMBATORE: Nine labourers have been penalised and warned by the Forest department for allegedly killing four flamingos,perched on the banks of the Perur pond here recently. The labourers,hailing from Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu and working in sugarcane farms,had killed the birds weighing about two kilograms each by administering insecticides to small fishes and then feeding them.
