The state government has announced a waiver of stamp duty on all documents related to crop and agricultural loans up to Rs 2 lakh, effective from January 1, 2026.

This decision covers key documents including loan agreements, mortgages, guarantees, and notices. The waiver aims to alleviate the financial burden on lakhs of farmers across the state by eliminating additional costs associated with stamp duty, thereby simplifying access to timely institutional credit.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule highlighted the initiative as a “New Year gift” to farmers, stating, “This decision, taken under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, will generate substantial cost savings for farmers. They can now redirect these savings towards essential inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and modern farming practices, leading to brighter harvests and improved productivity.”

The measure also streamlines the loan disbursement process by reducing paperwork and eliminating the need for stamp paper, enabling faster, simpler, and more dignified access to credit from banks and financial institutions.

Bawankuke said, “The pro-farmer policy underscores the Maharashtra Government’s commitment to transparent and affordable banking services, fostering stronger agriculture and overall farmer prosperity.”
