CRPF constable’s headless body found

Raipur: A headless body of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable was found on Sunday on the outskirts of Jagdalpur,headquarters of the tribal Bastar division,in Chhattisgarh. The deceased was identified as Kanhaiya Yadav,36,who was posted at Masgaon and belonged to the CRPF’s Special Action Force,which was earlier known as Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA). The body has been sent for post-mortem,the police said. Yadav,who belongs to Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh,was returning to Bastar after leave. Police did not rule out the possible involvement of Naxalites in the murder but said they were also probing other angles as it was not the practice of Naxalites to take away severed head of the victim.

Four Kanwarias killed in road mishap

Nawada: Four Kanwarias,including a woman,were on Sunday killed and as many injured when a car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck near Tara Chatti area in Bihar’s Nawada district,the police said. Four kanwarias died on the spot,while four were injured. The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital,where their condition was said to be critical. Efforts were on to ascertain the identity of the victims.

Lecturer attack: One PFI activist held

Kochi: One of the three activists of radical outfit the Popular Front of India (PFI),against whom police had issued a lookout notice in connection with the attack on a college lecturer on July 4,was arrested on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off that Niyaz was travelling in a train from Tamil Nadu,police detained him at Ottappalam station in Palakkad district. The notice was issued on Saturday against Niyaz,Aziz and Ayub for their alleged involvement in the attack.

Woman ends life after killing sons

Chandigarh: A woman allegedly committed suicide at her house here on Sunday by consuming a poisonous substance after feeding the same to her two minor sons who also died. The woman’s nine-year-old daughter,who too was allegedly given the substance,is critical. The woman’s (identified as Sunita,29) husband,Vishnu,is employed with a senior police officer here. Her two sons were identified as Raj (5) and Suraj (8). Investigations are on and a case has been registered regarding the matter.
