Navy subs collide,minor damage
NEW DELHI: Two Indian Navy Kilo class diesel submarines INS Sindhuratna and INS Sindhukesari suffered minor damage after they collided at the Mumbai Naval Docks last week. The Russian-origin submarine,which was being docked,brushed with the other submarine near its berthing slot after returning from a routine sortie. The incident occurred after the submarine suffered a minor engine malfunction. A high-level inquiry has been ordered by the Navy to ascertain the cause behind the incident. Sources said that the amount of damage suffered is fully repairable and the work can be undertaken within the country.
Chota Rajan men killed in shootout
KOLKATA: Two members of the Chota Rajan group were said to have been killed on Saturday afternoon in an encounter with Dawood Ibrahims group at Kakarvitta near the Indo-Nepal checkpost. There was a shootout between members of the two gangs of Mumbai that of Chota Rajan and Dawood Ibrahim. We have been told that two members of the Chota Rajan gang were shot dead. We have asked the police in Nepal to investigate.
DHD commander held in Nepal
GUWAHATI: Niranjan Hojai,self-styled commander-in-chief of the armed wing of Dima Halam Daoga or Black Widow was arrested by the National Investigation Agency at the Kathmandu airport on Friday night. Hojai,along with DHD-J chairman Jewel Garlosa had unleashed a reign of terror in Assams North Cachar Hills.
Professor held for extortion attempt
RAIPUR: A professor was arrested Saturday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 10 crore from an engineering college in Durg district by claiming to be a Naxal,police said. The accused,Premshankar Sharma,confessed that he sent threatening emails to the institutes director Saurabh Rungta asking him to pay the amount or face consequences,SP Amit Kumar said.
Maoist couple held for killing constable
KHAMMAM: A Maoist couple was arrested on Saturday morning by Khammam district police. Musiki Deva is accused in the killing of a police constable in 2007 while Musiki Juhi is a dalam member in the neighbouring Chattisgarh.
