Raj surrenders,gets bail in 2008 rioting case

OSMANABAD: MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Monday surrendered before a local court in a case of rioting registered against him in 2008 and was later released on bail. Raj was granted bail by a judicial magistrate first class in Umergaon village of Osmanabad on a bond of Rs 15,000. He was accompanied by his lawyer Sayaji Nangre. The MNS chief was arrested on October 21,2008 in Ratnagiri in connection with an agitation launched by his party against north Indians. Following the arrest,riots broke out in various parts of the state.

IndiGo flight suffers tyre burst in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: More than 160 people onboard an IndiGo flight from Delhi had a narrow escape on Monday when one of the tyres of the aircraft burst while landing at the airport here. The tyre of the flight coming from Delhi burst during landing at around 1:10 am, airport director Mohammad Israr said. All 158 passengers and six crew members were safe,the airline said. Israr said the tyre had been replaced and the IndiGo flight 6E-551 was ready for take off.

Prohibitory orders on NH-37 in Kaziranga

GUWAHATI: Prohibitory orders restricting the speed limit of vehicles have been imposed on National Highway 37 passing through the Kaziranga National Park,famed for its one-horned rhino. Bokakhat sub-divisional authorities have issued an order under Section 144 CrPC fixing the speed limit of vehicles up to 40 km per hour on NH-37. The measure has been taken to prevent any harm to animals migrating towards Karbi Anglong for safe shelter during flood season.

35 taken ill after chlorine gas leak

BERHAMPUR ORISSA: At least 35 people,including women and children,took ill after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder of the Urban Water Supply Department in Orissas Berhampur Monday. They were admitted to MKCG Medical College Hospital and their condition is improving, Berhampur Sub-collector Ajit Mishra said. The cylinder,used to purify water,leaked when someone allegedly tried to remove its brass nozzle,officials said. All schools in the area have been closed,they added.

MP Pre-Medical Test: 7 impostors held

BHOPAL: Seven persons from UP have been caught taking Madhya Pradesh Pre-Medical Test for other students. Seven imposters were caught from Guna,Rewa and Jabalpur centres for appearing on behalf of other students, official sources said Monday. One of the arrested is an MBBS student,they added.

Prag Mahal to be renovated

VADODARA: Kutch district administration would send to Gujarat government a proposal for renovating the historic Prag Mahal,which was damaged in 2001 earthquake,Collector M Thenarsan said Monday. The move comes after the suggestion of Gujarat brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan,who had shot an ad here promoting tourism in the state. Prag Mahal was built in 1879 by Rao Pragmalji II.

3 cops suspended for custodial death

PRATAPGARH UP: SHO Nawabjanj Anjani Rai and constables Jitendra and Basudeo have been suspended for allegedly killing in custody Mathura Prasad Lodh,a trader arrested for allegedly selling illicit liquor,officials said on Monday.
