HC gives CBI a month to trace Nicole Tamang

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday pulled up the CBI for its failure to trace Nicole Tamang,prime accused in the killing of Gorkha League president Madan Tamang on May 21,2010. He escaped from CID custody at Siliguri on August 22,2010. The High Court gave one months time to the CBI to trace Nicole and produce him before the court. Nicoles wife Pema Tamang had filed a habeas corpus petition in September 2010 seeking the intervention of the HC in the disappearance of her husband. She feared he might have been killed by the police and his body burnt or buried.

Chilkari massacre: Death sentence for four Maoists

Ranchi: Four Maoists Jeetan Marandi,Anil Sao alias Ram,Chatrapati Mandal and Manoj Rajwar were on Thursday sentenced to death by a lower court for the 2007 Chilkari massacre in which former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandis son Anup was among the 19 persons killed. After the judgment,Marandi said,I honour the courts verdict. But I believe efforts should be made to help extremists join the mainstream. The convicts should approach the high court against death sentence.

Karnal murder: Forensic report shows no traces of poison

CHANDIGARH: The forensic report submitted on Thursday by Rohtaks Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in the murder case of Karam Singh,former sarpanch of a Karnal village,has said no poison is detected in victims body tissues. The samples had been sent for forensic tests to ascertain if the sharp object poked repeatedly in Karam Singhs abdomen,was poisonous or not.

Army jawan found dead

JODHPUR: An Army jawan was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his home on Thursday,police said. Harpal Singh 29 of 19 Field Ammunition depot was from Gujarat and was staying with his wife and two children. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts, Col S D Goswami,PRO Defence said.

Human sacrifice

BHADOI UP: In a suspected case of human sacrifice,the head of a three-year-old boy was found in a field in Gopiganj area here,police said on Thursday. The police could not find the boys torso and were yet to ascertain his identity.
