Storm in UP,Bihar claims 22

Lucknow/Gaya: At least 22 people were killed and 45 injured in storms followed by rains in different parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Friday. Fourteen people were killed and 20 injured as a heavy duststorm accompanied by rains lashed parts of central and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Nine people were killed and 12 injured in Jaunpur district,four were killed in Ballia and one was killed and several injured in Ghazipur. High velocity winds uprooted hoardings,trees,electric and telephone poles,disrupting communication links and traffic flow at some places. Meanwhile,eight persons were killed and 25 injured after houses and a circus tent collapsed due to storm and thundershower in Bihar’s Nawada,Nalanda and Gaya districts.

Tiger kills woman in Chandrapur

NAGPUR: Two tiger attacks were reported in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district on Friday,one of them killing a woman and the other injuring a youth. Sunita Kulgamwar of Hivra village was killed in Dhaba forest range early in the morning when she,with her husband and others,was collecting tendu leaves. The other attack was in Chimur range,close to the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR),in which 18-year old Pradip Dadmal was injured,while collecting tendu leaves along with others. He was taken to a hospital in Chimur and discharged after treatment.

UP govt dismisses 1053 doctors

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has dismissed over a thousand doctors from service for absenting from work. As many as 1,053 doctors,missing from work for nearly two decades without informing the authorities,have been dismissed from service following an approval from Governor B L Joshi,officials said. The doctors were either involved in private practice or were trying to evade new postings at other places.

SECL mine blast toll rises to six

Raipur: The death toll in the Thursday’s blast at the South Eastern Coalfield Limited (SECL) coal mines in Chhattisgarh’s Koria district has risen to six. SECL Deputy GM (operations),S K Goswami,with his colleagues Nirmal Jangde and Radheshyam were killed and 32 were injured. Three of the injured undergoing treatment succumbed to injuries on Friday. Dixit said six employees were still missing. Rescue work has been hampered because of the fire in the mine. PTI
