A sessions court in the district has issued a bailable warrant against suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt in a 1990 case relating to a persons death.

Warrant against Bhatt in 90 case

Jamnagar: A sessions court in the district has issued a bailable warrant against suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt in a 1990 case relating to a persons death due to alleged police beating. The warrant was issued by Additional Session Judge N T Solanki on Tuesday,after Bhatt,an accused,failed to appear in the court in Khambhaliya taluka. Bhatt has accused Gujarat CM Narendra Modi of misusing the state machinery during 2002 post-Godhra riots. The senior IPS officer was recently suspended.

4 Maoists held in Arunachal

Itanagar: A joint police team from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam,including personnel of 26 Maratha Light Infantry regiment of the Army,arrested four Maoists from Mahadevpur area under Namsai circle of Lohit district during an operation early on Wednesday. The ultras were identified as Sanjib Daduminia,Lotik Maran,Debojit Borgohain all from Tinsukia district in neighbouring Assam,while the fourth arrested cadre Biswajit Baruah hails from Assams Dibrugarh district.

Woman killed for practising witchcraft

NAGAON: A woman was killed and seven others injured by villagers for allegedly practising witchcraft in Assams Nagaon district,the police said on Wednesday. A group of irate villagers attacked the women in their homes on Tuesday night at Salna Tea Estate,after some people fell ill in the area. A woman,identified as 37-year old Rupa Boro,was killed. The injured have been admitted to Nagaon Civil Hospital. Tension continues to prevail in the area,the police said.

Youth killed in clash between two groups

SRINAGAR: An 18-year-old youth was allegedly killed in a clash between two groups over a piece of land in Pulwama district of south Kashmir,the police said on Wednesday. Omar Farooq was hit on his head by a log on Tuesday at Wuyan village of Pulwama,police said. Farooq was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,they said. A case has been registered and two persons were detained for questioning,the police said.

Teenaged girl found dead in Baramulla

SRINAGAR: A 15-year-old girl was found dead in Sopore in north Kashmirs Baramulla district,the police said on Wednesday. The body of Bilquis Akhter alias Folie was recovered from a field near her house in village Akhoonpora on Tuesday. The body had been handed over to her family members after post-mortem and other legal formalities,and a case has been registered,the police said.

Driver burnt,killed after boys death

PATNA: Incensed at the death of a minor in a road accident,an irate mob torched a tractor driver to death at Phulwarisharif,Patna on Wednesday. The incident took place at Bhusaul village when a tractor run over a nine-year-old boy. Angry people first torched the tractor and later threw the driver into flames. Before police arrived,the driver was dead.

Indian in Oz jailed for road rage attack

MELBOURNE: An Indian student was on Wednesday given a two-and-a-half year jail term by an Australian court,which found him guilty of recklessly causing serious injuries to a group of compatriots during a road rage attack. Gurdeep Singh Mann 25,who lives in Victoria,will have to serve at least 18 months before he becomes eligible for parole,and is expected to face deportation after prison.
