Guwahati: The outlawed ULFA suffered yet another major setback on Friday after around 20 top cadres,said to be close confidantes of its self-styled commander-in-chief Paresh Barua,were arrested in Bangladesh and handed over to India across the international border in Meghalaya. Those handed over included self-styled Captains Bhaiti Barua,Biju Deka,and Pradyut Gohain and publicity wing member Anu Buragohain,among others.

68 more die in UP flood fury

NEW DELHI: Flood fury claimed 68 more lives in Uttar Pradesh even as the deluge situation in most parts of northern India on Friday eased with water level of major rivers receding due to absence of rain. With fresh casualties reported from Basti,Kannauj,Bijnore,Moradabad and Lakhimpur Kheri districts since Thursday,the toll rose to 380 in UP this monsoon season since June.

Prof attack: SC notice to dentist

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Dr Raneef,a dentist allegedly involved in the attack on Professor T J Joseph by suspected activists of Popular Front of India in Kerala,on a petition filed by the state to cancel his bail. A Bench of Justices Markandeya Katju and T S Thakur sought response from Raneef,who secured bail despite being charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

HC reserves verdict on Tiwari appeal

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday reserved its verdict on an appeal filed by senior Congress leader N D Tiwari against a decision by it to impose a cost of Rs 75,000 on him in a paternity suit filed by a man claiming to be his biological son.

JKLF leader,kin injured in firing

SRINAGAR: Senior JKLF leader Showket Ahmad Bakshi and two of his family members were hurt when police and CRPF men fired pellets at them near their home in Bemina,Srinagar,on Friday. Police,however,denied the firing was unprovoked.
