Man tries to sneak into Rahuls convoy,held

SULTANPUR: A man identified as Mewalal was arrested on Friday when he tried to sneak into the convoy of Rahul Gandhi while he was on his way to attend a meeting at Vikas Bhawan in UPs Sultanpur district. Inspector Virendra Singh said Mewalal was in an inebriated state. Police has also lodged an FIR against a dozen members of Vyapar Mandal traders association who tried to raise slogans when Rahuls convoy passed through the area,Singh said.

10 miners killed in Rajasthan

UDAIPUR: Ten miners were killed and 30 injured when a soapstone mine near Parsola in Pratapgarh district caved in on Friday. About 50 workers were working in the mine at the time of the accident. The 15 seriously injured miners have been admitted to Maharana Bhupal Hospital in Udaipur. Rescue workers were looking for other trapped workers,said sources.

CBI moves SC against bail to Pappu Yadav

New Delhi: The CBI on Friday approached the Supreme Court,challenging a Patna High Court order granting bail to RJD leader and former MP Pappu Yadav in Ajit Sarkar murder case. The High Court had granted bail to Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav,undergoing life imprisonment in the murder case,on February 18 last year. The CBI pleaded before a Bench of Justices G S Singhvi and Asok Kumar Ganguly that the bail order be quashed. The Bench,however,refused to pass any order as Justice Ganguly recused himself from hearing the case.

2,500 PPP model schools likely soon

NEW DELHI: The HRD Ministry may soon open 2,500 model schools under the public-private partnership model. A committee examining the issue is reportedly close to finalising the funding format for the same. Sources said PPP schools were likely to start functioning by 2011. A committee will recommend ways to ensure academic quality in these schools while another will help frame guidelines for the schools.

Survey of India team in Ananthapur

BELLARY: A team of experts appointed by the Supreme Court to verify charges of illegal mining in reserve forest areas in Andhra Pradesh by Reddy brothers-owned Obalapuram Mining Company visited some areas of Ananthapur in Andhra on Friday. The five-member Survey of India team from Dehradun is expected to verify certain documents of the Mines and Geology Department after the survey,official sources said.

Two intruders killed,fake currency seized

AMRITSAR: The BSF on Friday claimed to have shot dead two Pakistan intruders who were trying to sneak into India in Naushehera Dhala village in Punjab Thursday night. BSF IG Himmat Singh who visited the spot on Friday said the intruders had crossed into India with fake currency notes worth Rs 65 lakh. This is one of the biggest cache of fake currency notes smuggled through the border in recent history, the IG said.

Gen wants chapter on Army in schools

NEW DELHI: Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor on Friday suggested to the HRD Ministry that a chapter on the Armys contributions and services could be included in school books to motivate youngsters to join the Armed Forces. Kapoor said good students are no longer joining the defence services and education in the ethos of the Armed Forces would encourage them to take up a military career.
