21 of marriage party killed in accident
RANCHI: A night after they attended a wedding,21 members of a marriage party were killed and 20 others injured when the bus they were travelling in rammed into a tree near Barwa village,located near the Grand Trunk Road in Dhanbad,on Wednesday. The driver seems to have lost control, the police said. The bus was returning from Munda basti in Govindpur block to Salampur in West Bengals Chittaranjan town.
Bulletproof scam: Custody till June 19
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of a senior Home Ministry official and another accused in an alleged scam involving purchase of bullet-proof jackets for central paramilitary forces. Additional Sessions Judge O P Saini sent MHA official Radhey Shyam Sharma and R K Gupta,director of a Delhi-based firm to judicial custody till June 19.
Super 30 founder seeks new JEE rules
NEW DELHI: Super 30 founder Anand Kumar Wedneday met HRD minister Kapil Sibal,asking for a standard protocol for holding competitive exams like JEE. Kumar suggested at least three attempts be given to rural students for the JEE to reduce disparities and that the exam paper to have questions in both English & Hindi on the same sheet.
Six killed as boat capsizes in Narmada
SEHORE (MP): Six persons were killed Wednesday when a boat in which they were traveling capsized in Narmada river. The mishap took place in the morning near Dehri village,when the boat,carrying 12 people,sank. Bodies of all the deceased have been fished out.
Pawar has surgery for oral infection
MUMBAI: NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar Wednesday underwent a surgery at Breach Candy hospital to remove mouth infection. The procedure to remove infective granuloma took almost an hour and Pawar is recovering well, Sultan Pradhan,who performed the surgery,said.
Lakara,ex-DGP are Jharkhand advisors
NEW DELHI: The Union government on Monday appointed retired IAS officer Wilfred Lakara and former state Director General of Police Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as advisors for Jharkhand which was placed under Presidents rule earlier this month. Wilfred Lakara,has been appointed advisor for the second time. Prasad is a Member of Jharkhands State Security Commission.
Noted journalist Kalita dead
GUWAHATI: Noted Guwahati-based journalist Gauri Shankar Kalita,editor of the Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh editions of The Sentinel passed away here on Wednesday morning following a massive stroke. Kalita (55),who began his career with The Sentinel,had also served as the executive editor of Northeast Times and Dainik Janasadharan before returning to his original workplace.
