Indian film Lahore denied Pak release

New Delhi: Indian film Lahore which looks at India-Pakistan relationships through sports,was denied a release in Pakistan because the country’s censor board found Pakistan’s portrayal in the film negative. Producer Vivek Khatkar said,“Our film doesn’t have anything negative about Pakistan. The name of our film has been misjudged by the authorities. It is called Lahore because the climax of the film is set in Lahore. We have no intentions of hurting anyone’s sentiments.” The film,shot extensively in Pakistan,is set for a global release on March 19.

NDFB militant,aide killed

GUWAHATI: A hardcore militant leader of the anti-talk faction of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Udalguri district in northern Assam early on Tuesday. Khumrang Bodo,alias D.Khobai,self-styled chief of the anti-talk faction of the NDFB’s military wing,was killed inside the Rowta reserve forest,25 km from Udalguri. Rowta reserve forest is close to the Indo-Bhutan border.

Pragya moved to jail after treatment

NASHIK: Malegaon blast-accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur has been shifted to the Nashik road central jail from a city-based hospital where she was undergoing treatment,sources said on Tuesday. Sadhvi,who was being treated for spinal problems at Ayurveda Seva Sangh hospital,was shifted to the central jail on Monday,citing security reasons,hospital sources said. Thakur’s bail plea was rejected by the Bombay High Court last week after hearing her lawyers’ argument that she had been illegally detained before her formal arrest on October 23,2008.

Naxalites kidnap,release engineer

GAYA: An engineer of a private construction firm was abducted by a breakaway faction of Naxalites in Gaya district of Bihar,police said on Tuesday. The engineer was,however,released within a few hours of his abduction. Heavily armed personnel of the Revolutionary Communist Centre (RCC),a breakaway faction of the proscribed CPI(Maoists),raided the office of the private road construction firm and kidnapped the engineer,Sudip Ghosh,from Banahi village late on Monday,

SP Sushil Khopade said. The engineer was released in Sherghati forest on Tuesday morning,he said.

Togadia can’t visit Kandhamal: Admn

Bhubaneswar: VHP leader Pravin Togadia will not be allowed to visit Kandhamal district,which has been violence-free for about a year now. “We will not allow VHP leader Pravin Togadia to visit Kandhamal as the administration does not want to take any risk though things are in good shape,” District Magistrate-cum-Collector Krishna Kumar said over phone on Tuesday. “The situation is absolutely normal in the district now,” he added. The state unit of VHP had earlier informed the Home Department regarding Togadia’s proposed three-day visit to Orissa.
