26 killed as bus plunges into river in MP
RAISEN MP: At least 26 persons were killed and 15 feared swept away after a private bus fell into the swollen Barna river off a bridge in Raisen district on Monday. The bus carrying 60 passengers fell off the bridge about 100 km from here when one of its tyres burst and the driver lost control. The bus was on its way to Jabalpur from Bhopal. Police said the driver is missing while the conductor suffered injuries as he jumped out of the bus.
Nohwar takes over as Vice Chief of Air Staff
NEW DELHI: Air Marshal Kishan Kumar Nohwar took over as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff at Air Headquarters on Monday. The fighter pilot,who is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College and Air War College USA,was earlier serving as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Air Command in Shillong. Air Marshal Nohwar,who was born at Ambala,has 3,400 hours of flying to his credit and has flown the MiG-21 in his early years into the service and later commanded a Mig-27 squadron.
Junagadh Kesar mango gets GI tag
AHMEDABAD: The famous saffron-coloured Kesar variety of mango,largely grown around the foothills of Girnar mountains in Gujarats Junagadh district,has got a global recognition as Gir Kesar mango,after being granted the Geographical Indication GI tag. It is the second variety of mango in India to get GI registration,after the Dussheri mango variety grown in Uttar Pradesh. GI registration will help the farmers of Junagadh and Amreli district immensely. Junagadh Agriculture University Vice Chancellor N C Patel said.
Woman jumps before train with kid
JAUNPUR: A 35-year-old woman along with her minor daughter allegedly committed suicide on Monday by jumping before a moving train in Gopalpur area,police said here. The incident took place when Nageena jumped in front of a moving train along with her eight-year-old daughter Anchal,they said. Police claimed the woman took the extreme step as she was upset after being scolded by her husband Kamla Shanker.
Bihar: 4 kanwariyas killed in road mishap
NAWADA: Four Kanwariyas were killed and as many injured on Monday in a head on collision between a bus and a Bolero jeep near Badirbiha crossing in Bihars Nawada district,police said. The mishap took place as a speeding bus collided with the jeep carrying the Kanwariyas on way to pilgrimage,police said. Three Kanwariyas were killed on the spot,while another succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
MV Pavit: FIR filed against owners
MUMBAI: The police on Monday registered an FIR against the Dubai-based owners,captain and crew members of a cargo vessel that ran aground near Juhu beach in north-west Mumbai on Sunday. An FIR under IPC section 336 act endangering life or personal safety of others was registered against the owners,captain and crew members of M V Pavit, said C G Naik,SI Yellow Gate police station.
38-yr-old gang-raped in Bangalore
BANGALORE: A 38 year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by three unidentified persons at Nayandahalli in the district on Monday,police said. The victim was employed in a garment factory and was returning home when the incident took place. The accused robbed her off her gold chain and cash,police said.
