The BJP Thursday slammed the Centre for singling out BJP-ruled Karnataka over the threats issued to Northeastern students and workers.

After the Kokrajhar violence,Northeastern people are becoming target of violence in many areas in the country. Prime Minister spoke to the chief minister of Karnataka but he did not speak to chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra despite the fact that violent incidents against Northeastern students have been reported in Pune and Hyderabad, said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.

Swaraj pointed out that Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had convened a meeting of representatives of Muslims and Northeasterns to prevent any trouble and the home minister went to the railway station to assure security to fleeing people from the Northeast. We hope Andhra and Maharashtra will also ensure protection of Northeast people, she said.

Swaraj said the BJP will seek a response from the government on the issue in Parliament on Friday and asked party workers across the country to protect people from Northeast.

Gadkari blames illegal migrants

Alleging that illegal Bangladeshi migrants were behind attacks on Northeastern people,BJP chief Nitin Gadkari said he has asked BJP-ruled states to ensure their safety and security. Former BJP president Rajnath Singh blamed the attacks on the Centres alleged inaction against the spread of illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the country.
